our accommodations

waking at sunrise

visiting the chapel and school where mountain children walk 15 miles to learn

kids from the local village

the school & chapel

We delivered 250lbs of beans, rice, sugar and cooking oil to the school

Pascal (right) with some of the locals

A little bit goes a long way...

local villagers take mangoes to the wholesale market for distribution

a proud cook in her kitchen

two girls who attend the school during the week

family planting corn

coming down from the mountains

along the way...

we stopped to give some of the women walking mangoes to their home markets 20 miles away

they were pretty happy

we drove them over 20 miles that they were going to walk with 50 lb trays of fresh mangos

we passed hundreds of women headed for the wholesale market

most of them were too poor to own a donkey so they walked

by mid day it was 95 degrees

despite the heat, they were happy for the harvest and a chance to make some money

no trees on the mountain pass to get shade, they stopped to rest in the sun

most of them would pass this valley twice getting to the market and back

the day began and ended with an amazing journey and a new respect for the women who distribute the mangos from the mountain villages to their local towns
